Bargaining Update--December 20th, 2024

Our RWU bargaining team met with OHSU again yesterday, and has started getting into some economic related articles! A final tentative agreement was reached to round out the year with the Recognition article which defines (and expands) the RWU unit. 

We received 2 counterproposals from OHSU on Health & Safety, as well as Modified Operations. While mostly covering differences in verbiage/grammar, OHSU pushed back against providing IWHC (Inclement Weather and Hazardous Conditions Leave) on the grounds that it's too expensive.

OHSU also proposed an article on Insurance Coverage, mostly following 328 language. Much of this is currently negotiated and managed on the Employee Benefits Council and the union representatives on the Council and under this language RWU would have representation following the contract. RWU provided our proposal for the Time Off and Leaves article - defining the types of leave and how they work - along with the Hours of Work article outlining shifts, overtime, etc.

Of note, RWU has pushed for:

  • All 1.0 FTE union members accrue 26 days of PTO per year, while gaining an additional 1 day of PTO per 5 years of service (retroactively).

  • 8 sick days per year, usable at any time.

  • Cash out of up to 80 hours of PTO/year, and 250 hours at termination.

  • A donation pool of PTO for other union members.

  • All the official OHSU holidays + Juneteenth & Veteran's Day

Additionally, we introduced an Hours of Work Package (multiple articles closely related to one another). The articles within this package include:

  • Hours of Work - Defines work schedules, rest & meal periods, time between work.

  • Overtime and Premium Pay - Defines overtime and when it would apply

  • Differential Pay - Receiving additional pay when work requires more than the norm in terms of shifts/weekends/translation work/etc.
