Research Workers United represents over 1,700 researchers at OHSU. We’re proud that many of our OHSU colleagues benefit from union representation even if they aren’t represented by our union. We are stronger together and stand united with all members of the union family at OHSU. AFSCME Unions

Local 328

The oldest and largest AFSCME union at OHSU, Local 328 was formed in 1985. Today, their union represents more than 7,000 employees.

Graduate Researchers United

GRU represents OHSU Ph.D. students receiving stipends in the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health. The union was recognized by the ERB in 2018 and ratified their first contract in March 2019.

OHSU Postdoc Workers United

PWU ratified their first contract in 2024 and represents postdoctoral researchers at OHSU.

House Officers Union

HOU represents residents and fellows at OHSU. The union was recognized by the ERB in 2019 and ratified their first contract in the summer of 2021.

Hillsboro Workers United

In Jan. 2021, employees at OHSU Hillsboro Medical Center (formerly Tuality) voted to organize with Oregon AFSCME Council 75. As of Nov. 2021, these workers are negotiating their first contract with OHSU.

Non-AFSCME Unions

Oregon Nurses Association/AURN 

ONA represents the registered nurses at OHSU.

Part of ONA, APU represents advanced practice professionals such as nurse practitioners and physicians associates.

The police association signed its first contract with OHSU in April 2016.
